Joining
Private Interests and the Public Good
Helping
Protect Nature's Last Great Places
J.M. Huber Corporation has enjoyed a long relationship with The
Nature Conservancy (TNC) a group known for its innovative
approach to, as its slogan states, "saving the last
great places".
Among these innovations is their use of "compatible
forestry". By judiciously harvesting timber on selected
areas adjacent to their preserves, The Nature Conservancy
can realize a perpetual income to help fund current and
future conservation projects.
Because
of our highly-disciplined system of management, Huber Resources
professionals are able to successfully blend TNC's ecosystem
management mandates with exemplary, value-added timber harvesting
on selected lands.
At
Huber Resources Corporation, we believe that "doing
things right" from an economic sense and "doing
the right things" for the environment are both essential
to long-term success.

| Managing
for the Marten |
|
|
|
A story
we like to tell is about the pine marten. Also known as
the sable, this small predator is plentiful on much of the
land we manage in the United States. The challenge is, in
order to flourish, each pair of martens requires a complex
set of forest conditions spanning over 1,200 acres.

 |
|
|
|
And,
as our wildlife biologist likes to say, "If you can
successfully manage for a 'high maintenance' creature like
the marten, you can manage for the other vertebrates as
well." By working with researchers and foresters, we're
confident that the pine marten will flourish on Huber lands
for years to come - with no reduction in land productivity.
We believe it's a privilege and an obligation to bring this
measure of ecological consciousness to all our clients.

"At
Huber, responsible stewardship of the environment has always
been the way we conduct business. We believe it is not only
possible to run a business and take care of the environment
- we consider it desirable. We would argue that operating
in an environmentally sound manner is the best way to be
profitable over the long haul."
